In the second half of the 20th century, Georgian geography gave world science many brilliant scientists. Nikoloz Levanis-dze Beruchashvili (1947-2006), outstanding physical geographer, landscape scientist and cartographer, professor of Tbilisi State University, doctor of geography, chair of cartography-geodesy and geoinformatics, scientific, research laboratory for studying the state of the natural environment using aerial space methods, and physical-geographic station Gamge, vice-president of the Geographical Society of Georgia, chairman of the National Committee of Geographers of Georgia, founder and first head of the Landscape Analysis Commission of the International Geographical Union (IGU), holds a special place among them. N. Beruchashvili became a classic in the science of landscape study during his lifetime. He generously scattered new ideas around, which always attracted young people to him, organically created scientific teams ready to make operational solutions to a wide range of problems: from the study of natural disasters in the mountains to geopolitics. Since October 2007, international jubilee conferences dedicated to Professor Nikoloz Beruchashvili have been held. After this time, similar jubilee international conferences are held every five years. The objectives of the event are as follows: promotion of dialogue on scientific research and exchange/sharing of knowledge and experience; Presenting the achievements of Georgian scientists, integration in the international scientific field and deepening cooperation in order to prioritize future researches and develop innovative directions; Attracting young people to science, introducing young researchers, promoting their research and promoting their professional growth to engage in future international or local research projects.
