Development perspectives of water supply, sanitation and drainage systems of the settlements in mountainous regions on the example of the town Stepantsminda

Georgia is a mountainous country, and the current trends of socio-economic development prioritize the existence of a comfortable environment in rural and small rural settlements, especially in tourist regions. Therefore, instead of individual water supply systems, the construction and proper operation of centralized water supply, appropriate sanitation, and drainage systems are crucial. This issue needs to be done in many populated areas of Georgia. In this regard, we have reviewed the water supply sources of Stepantsminda and Gergeti, and their current situation. Sanitation system, qualitative indicators of wastewater discharge, and their impact on the environment. The drainage system, sources of contamination for urban runoff, and its cleaning possibilities. Also, the development prospects of these systems, taking into consideration the interests of the local population and the growth of the tourist infrastructure. The analysis of the water supply, sewerage, and drainage systems of Stepantsminda town, as a mountainous region, can be considered a model study, the methodological bases of which will be used for other mountainous regions of the country.
